Potential Benefits Recommendations

The Potential Benefits section in CloudKeeper Tuner highlights opportunities that help avoid future unnecessary AWS costs. These aren't immediate savings but focus on improving long-term efficiency through policy improvements, modernization, and cleanup actions.

Overview of Potential Benefits Recommendations

This section organizes recommendations by service and provides:

  • Total Number of Opportunities identified for cost hygiene improvement.
  • Prevention-focused Suggestions such as cleaning up unused data or reducing configuration overhead.
  • Actions like enabling lifecycle policies, reducing timeout buffers, or cleaning up old resources.

Example: S3 Lifecycle Policy Missing

Buckets without lifecycle policies tend to accumulate unused or outdated data, which increases storage costs. This recommendation identifies such S3 buckets and advises setting up rules to clean up or transition data over time.

Key points include:

  • Lifecycle policies are not configured.
  • Old and unused data is not deleted or archived automatically.
  • This leads to unnecessary and growing storage costs.

Recommended action:
Configure S3 lifecycle policies to automatically transition or delete data based on access patterns or age.

Other Examples

In addition to S3, many other proactive recommendations are provided, such as:

  • Lambda Timeout: Reducing timeout for functions running shorter durations.
  • Elastic Container Registry (ECR): Adding lifecycle policies to delete old container images.
  • SQL Server Licensing: Merging underutilized SQL instances to avoid paying for unused vCPU licenses.
  • Route 53 Cleanup: Identifying unused hosted zones and records.

These suggestions can be reviewed under the Potential Benefits tab and include detailed remediation guidance to help you take appropriate action.

Taking Action

These actions are manual and review-based to ensure safety and awareness. While they are not time-sensitive, acting on them helps enforce long-term cost discipline.

Your team can review the recommendation and then perform the upgrade in the AWS console. CloudKeeper's support team is available to assist if needed.

Potential Benefits help teams build a culture of cloud cost hygiene, ensuring best practices are followed, and cost leakages are avoided before they accumulate.
